Prime Minister of the Alash Autonomy, prominent statesman, scholar, journalist, and leader of the Kazakh national liberation movement in the early 20th century.
Biography
Alihan Nurmukhameduly Bokeikhanov (1866–1937) was one of the founders of modern Kazakh statehood, Prime Minister of the Alash Autonomy, and a descendant of Genghis Khan.
Education & Early Career
He graduated from the Imperial Forestry Institute in Saint Petersburg with degrees in economics and forestry. In the early 20th century, he co-founded the Kazakh newspaper, playing a crucial role in raising national political awareness.
The Alash Autonomy
In 1917, at the All-Kazakh Congress, he spearheaded the establishment of the Alash Party and the Alash Autonomy, serving as its government leader. He was later persecuted during Stalinist purges and executed in Moscow in 1937.
